Manchester, NH – The Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Manchester (BGCGM) is proud to announce that longtime Board Member Steve McMahon has been named the 2026 National Board Member of the Year by Boys & Girls Clubs of America (BGCA). This prestigious honor recognizes an individual whose leadership, dedication, and impact have made a lasting difference in the lives of young people.
The award was presented at the 2026 BGCA National Conference in Charlotte, NC, where Lorraine Orr, Executive Vice President and Chief Operations Officer of BGCA, introduced McMahon and shared the significance of the honor.
“With more than 20,000 board members serving Clubs across the country, selecting just one individual is no small task, because each board member makes a difference,” Orr said. “This award honors a board member who has demonstrated exceptional leadership, dedication, and lasting impact. It’s truly an honor to share the story of this year’s recipient.”
Orr highlighted McMahon’s more than 40 years of transformational leadership, noting his critical role in the Club’s last three capital campaigns, helping raise millions of dollars to expand impact and secure the organization’s future. His leadership also helped establish an endowment that has grown to more than $11 million, supporting major renovations and expansion.
Steve McMahon joined the BGCGM Board of Directors in 1985 and has been a steadfast champion for the youth of Manchester ever since. Through his many roles as an officer, committee chair, and trusted spokesperson, he has consistently gone above and beyond, advocating for all kids who need a voice and a helping hand.
“Steve’s commitment is nothing short of extraordinary,” said Diane Fitzpatrick, Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Manchester CEO. “For more than four decades, he has poured his heart into helping young people reach their full potential. His leadership has shaped not only our organization’s success, but also the lives of countless children and families in our community.”
Beyond fundraising, McMahon’s impact extends deeply into the Club’s culture and community. A trusted ambassador, he has welcomed more visitors than any other board member, introduced innovative fundraising strategies, and now leads planned giving efforts to ensure long-term sustainability. Since joining the board, he has served in nearly every leadership role and remains a steady, mission-driven presence whose influence will be felt for generations.
His commitment also shines through in personal connections with Club members. Each summer, McMahon opens his home to the Club’s teen leadership group, Keystone Club, for a day on the lake, offering experiences that, for many youth, are both new and unforgettable.
“Steve is a rare kind of leader,” says Jane Yerrington, BGCGM Board President. “His legacy is measured not just in dollars raised or projects completed, but in the lives he’s touched and the futures he’s helped shape. We are deeply grateful for his vision, compassion, and unwavering belief in every child’s potential.”
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Manchester proudly congratulates Steve McMahon on this extraordinary national recognition and thanks him for his decades of service and lasting impact.
